Privacy, in plain words
TapToVote is a free live polling tool made by Thin Air Studios LLC (the company behind Owl Test Prep). We keep as little as we can, we never sell it, and there are no ads.
If you vote
- You don't make an account. Your phone gets a random number, kept on the phone, so it can vote once and see its own answers.
- What you send (your votes, words, answers and questions) is kept with that poll, and the host and the big screen can see it.
- You give a name only if the host turns names on. Polls are anonymous unless the host says otherwise.
If you run a poll
- You don't need an account. A private host key is kept in your browser so only you can run your poll.
- If you sign in (with Google or an email link), we keep your email address and the list of your polls, so you can find them on another device. From Google we receive only your email address and the fact that Google checked it.
- Pictures you upload for a picture question are kept with the poll.
How long we keep it
Each poll, with every answer, name and picture in it, is deleted for good 60 days after it was last used. The host can download the results before then. A signed-in host's poll list stays until they ask us to delete it.
What we don't do
- No ads, no selling or renting data, no tracking or advertising cookies, no analytics on voters.
- We don't ask for, and you shouldn't collect, passwords, payment details or other sensitive information in a poll.
Cookies and small data on your device
A signed-in host gets one sign-in cookie. During Google sign-in a second cookie lasts ten minutes to check the sign-in is really yours. Voters' phones keep the random number and their answers in the browser's own storage. That's all.
Who else handles it
- Cloudflare runs the servers and stores the polls.
- Google handles "Continue with Google" if you choose it, and serves the page's font.
- An email service sends the sign-in link if you sign in by email.
We use a phone or computer's internet address only for a moment, to stop someone making floods of polls or sign-in emails. It isn't stored with any answers.
Children
Voters never make accounts, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A teacher using TapToVote with young students should leave names off, or use first names only.
Your choices
To have your poll list or anything else deleted sooner, or to ask what we hold about you, write to us through the help page at Owl Test Prep. A host can also delete a poll's answers from the poll itself.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes too. Thin Air Studios LLC, Woodland Park, Colorado, USA.
